Hip House (some may call it house rap, another term it's known for) is a subgenre of house music that fuses some of the styles with that of hip-hop and acid house. It also has a number of genres that have partially derived from it, such as breakbeat, drum & bass, digital hardcore and rave music.

House rap will generally use many electronic instruments in its music, including the keyboard, sequencer, drum machine and most commonly, the sampler. Taking samples from other music of the time period is a very common practice in this genre. Vocals, coming directly from hip-hop will almost always be rapped in a hip-hop-like fashion.

Some other characteristics of this music is the common use of the "clap" sound that can be produced on a drum machine. The drum style can be like that of house music, a steady bass drum on the quarter notes, or more of a hip-hop/breakbeat style, where the rhythm isn't as steady, but more syncopated.

history of electronic music

This electronic music genre became known during the late 1980s and it originated from many cities in the United States, including New York City, Detroit, Chicago and a few places in Europe as well, such as London and Manchester. The very first official house rap track was released in the United Kingdom, however.

There has been a debate as to what and where the first house rap track came from. An artist in the United States claimed to have been the first to release a house rap track on vinyl. This track was released in 1989, but the original artist fought back, stating that their track was released on vinyl in 1986. Many others have tried to claim that they were the first ones to release a track of this genre as well.

House rap very successful in many of the popular nightclubs during the late 1980s and early 1990s in the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia. During the early parts of the 2010s, it continues to grow in the United States.
